Happy Sad

Our Grandpa Charlie has gone home to be with his Lord. We are happy because he is over with pain and suffering . But we are sad because he meant so much to us. The thing that strikes me most about him is how much he loved his wife. That spilled over into every area of his life. People could see how humble he was and gentle and kind. Even strangers commented on how remarkable he was because he was kind to everybody. He lived the life Jesus asked us to.
This is what Charlie looked like when I was blessed enough to meet him.

Early on, he had a band. And a mischievous grin.

Here is Amaw, his most precious possession. They were married 68 loving years.

Todd and Craig gave the eulogy at Charlie's funeral. Both of them were profoundly influenced by his life. I feel so lucky that I got to marry a grandson of Charlie.
.
Getting ready for his funeral.
All his great-grandkids lined up. They did a wonderful job sitting still and listening. Except once in the middle of the funeral Tristan got up and scooted down the pew to get to me. "Mom, is Charlie in heaven right now?" "Yes!" I answered. "Then why is he still here?" Tristy asked. I said I'd have to explain it to him later.
Even Sawyer did a good job.
The church honored him afterward by hosting a delicious homemade dinner for us.
Amaw got lots of hugs. And while this was going on inside.....
The kids were being kids outside. How many rocks can we drop down this grate?
Charlie lived a life beautiful in God's eyes. And left behind a beautiful legacy...
We hope to carry it on to the glory of the Lord....
