She Wrote a Story...

The Land Beyond the Sunset

Once upon a time there was a horse named Star. He lived on a little farm with a dairy cow, three hens, and an old farmer. Star worked all day plowing fields for the farmer. Star always dreamed of running free, he wanted to run into the sunset and live there forever. And one night Star decided it was time to leave. He broke the lock on the gate, and ran all night. He found a cool patch of clover to lie in, and fell fast asleep.
The next morning, Star found the sun behind him. He had run beyond the sunrise! He trotted up a little hill and below him he saw a herd of wild horses! "They are free just like me!" he thought. And he ran down to greet them.
Days passed, weeks passed, and Star was having the time of his life. He loved being free. But the image of the little farm and the old farmer was stuck in his head. He began to doubt running away.
One day a little sparrow flew up to Star.
"Star! I've been looking all over for you," said the sparrow, "the farmer is heartbroken. He hasn't been able to plow his fields or pull the wagon. Please come back. He needs you!"
It was then that Star realized he had been selfish leaving the poor old farmer.
Star ran, he ran and ran to the little farm beyond the sunset. The farmer was so happy to see Star, he put his arms around Star's neck.
"I was wrong all along," thought Star, "this is the land beyond the sunset."
